Martin Anton Schmid (* 1987 in Rum near Innsbruck) graduated in the studies Composition and music theory at the Tyrolean Conservatory (= Tiroler Landeskonservatorium), where he also passed two post-graduate years, Comparative literature at the Leopold-Franzens-University Innsbruck with the degree Mag. phil. and Lehramtsstudium. Unterrichtsfächer: Musikerziehung und Instrumentalmusikerziehung (= Teacher Training Programme. Subjects: Music Education and Music Education Instruments) with piano and singing at the University Mozarteum Salzburg (= Universität Mozarteum Salzburg), with the degree Mag. art. His diploma thesis Filmmusik als Bedeutungsträger (in Comparative Literature) was published at the Akademikerverlag, his book Formelbuch der Harmonielehre at the Diplomica Verlag.
His oeuvre includes works for symphonic orchestra, chamber music and solo literature – stylistically he writes on the one hand in a romantic tonal style, on the other hand freely tonal and modern with a trend to expanded tonality. He composed the score to the movies Julie and Burnout, which each were recorded under his direction – the former also got released on CD. He furthermore composed inter alia several solo works for piano and works for string quartet. In 2012 he finished his first Symphony, which was premiered in May 2013 by the Universitätsorchester Innsbruck, in 2015 he finished the multipart composition Dignatio Tyrolis on request of former Landeshauptmann Günther Platter ordered by Land Tirol, which is played since 2015 until further notice annually several times as a film score and live as an opening music. 2024 his Concert for Violin and Orchestra was premiered by Martin Yavryan (Violin Solo), Universitätsorchester Innsbruck and Claudio Büchler (Conductor) in Innsbruck. Different compositions of Martin Anton Schmid got published.
Schmid teaches since 2013 different music theoretical subjects at the Tyrolean Conservatory, first as lecturer, meanwhile as Professor.
